Ezekiel 42:1-43:27, James 5:1-20, Psalm 119:1-16, Proverbs 28:6-7
“After You have corrected me, I will thank You by living as I should! I will obey! Oh, don’t forsake me and let me slip back into sin again. How can a young man stay pure? By reading Your Word and following its rules. I have tried my best to find You – don’t let me wander off from Your instructions. I have thought much about Your Words and stored them in my heart so that they would hold me back from sin.” Psalm 119:7-11
We start out with correction. Did you know that in Hebrews 12:6, the Bible states the Lord only corrects those He loves? Discipline is part of a parental relationship. If God is correcting you then you know you are His, and that’s a good thing. The psalmist responds to God’s correction by drawing close to Him and meditating on His Word.
The Word of God is true and living. It’s more than ink on a page. It literally has the Spirit to change a person who will open themselves up to it and do as it instructs. God uses the Bible as a guide for us to navigate the waters of this world. It is our greatest tool because it teaches us of God’s character, His expectations, how to connect with God, how to treat one another, how to grow into a decent human being, the list goes on. It is an ark of safety.
PRAYER: Lord, give me a desire for Your Word and to do of Your good pleasure. I want to know You and to stay close to You. Keep me in the safety of Your shadow. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
