Ezekiel 39:1-40:27, James 2:18-3:18, Psalm 118:1-18, Proverbs 28:2
“But someone may say, ‘You [claim to] have faith and I have [good] works; show me your [alleged] faith without the works [if you can], and I will show you my faith by my works [that is, by what I do].’” James 2:18
James sounds like a works doctrine but it’s really not. We are saved by believing and trusting in the sacrifice of Jesus. Our works are proof of our salvation. James is basically saying that if we can’t see any change in ourselves as evidenced by the things we do, then we may not have what we think we got…
PRAYER: Lord, teach me to examine myself to ensure I am in the faith. Help me not to fall off into dependency on my actions, but rather to keep my eyes on You. By the same token, I pray for boldness and a desire to share my faith verbally and in practical, tangible ways. Let my faith be seen by my works. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
