Genesis 31:17-32:12; Matthew 10:24-11:6; Psalm 13:1-6; Proverbs 3:16-18
I love the story of Jacob that teaches us even great men and women of God still have to walk life out. I don’t know what you are facing but I know in my heart if you are child of God bought by the blood of Jesus, everything is going to be alright. Can you say favor? Can you say the sure mercies of David?
Think about Jacob who ran from his brother Esau. Talk about dysfunction in the family. Jacob heads to his mother’s brother’s house, Laban. He vows to God that he will serve Him and give Him a tenth of everything he makes. (Genesis 28:20) Jacob works for Laban for twenty years. Over the course of that twenty years, Laban changes Jacob’s wages 10 times but God always caused Jacob to prosper. (Genesis 31:41)
The great truth is this, if God is for me who can be against me. When you are a son of God and His favor is upon you, He works everything out for your good. Even after seeing God’s blessing and favor, Jacob leaves Laban’s house without telling him. This great man of God who has seen God move over and over in his life tells Laban when he catches up to him, “I feared you would use force to keep your daughters from leaving with me.”
Life always amazes me. God keeps and blesses us with everything we have and we see Him move repeatedly in our lives yet we still fear. This shows me that faith is not the absence of fear but rather the ability and fortitude to keep pressing forward in God no matter what we feel or what the circumstance looks like. As soon as Laban and Jacob make a covenant to not harm each other and Laban goes back home, God allows the test one more time. Jacob has to meet his brother Esau whom he ran away from twenty years earlier. Jacob had taken advantage of his brother and took his birthright and his blessing. Now he’s facing Esau riding toward him with 400 men. He freaked out and sought God, wrestling with Him all night. Have you ever faced something in your life that brought you to your knees? If not, you will.
These experiences that seem to be the worse thing in our lives, God turns to be the greatest thing that ever happens to us. As we seek God with all of our heart we will find Him. Remember, we serve the God of comeback. So don’t take a step back, make a full comeback. God is using your pain and your circumstances to provide a turn around plan for you. He is the God of the great return.
PRAYER:
Lord, I thank You that I can move past my fear and discouragement, pick my head up and move forward. My mind and the enemy of my soul always want to beat me up with fear and insecurity but I see that You are the God of the comeback and I appreciate You being in my corner. Forgive me for allowing fear to ever dominate because You have been so faithful. Forgive me for hanging my head instead of pressing forward. I apologize for wasting time on regrets. I love You Father and I thank You for loving me. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
