“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:15-20
Wow – those are some power-packed verses! The apostle Paul brings us into the reality of the brevity of life. He encourages us live every day to the fullest, walking in what we know is the purpose of God. We may not know every detail and direction of God’s will but we do have enough to go on. Just in these verses alone we can discern that God want us to take advantage of the opportunities we have. He wants us to get high on worshiping Him and encouraging one another instead of numbing ourselves with substances. And finally, He wants us to walk in an attitude of gratitude. Being grateful keeps us focus on our blessings instead of focusing on what we don’t have.
PRAYER: Lord, I pray for a heart that is grateful and encouraging to others. The things in this scripture are clear concerning Your known will and I pray to put them in practice, daily worshiping and honoring You. Thank You for Your wisdom and peace, in Jesus’ name I pray, amen. |
