“Then I said, ‘Lord, how long will it be before they are ready to listen?’ And He replied, ‘Not until their cities are destroyed – without a person left – and the whole country is an utter wasteland, and they are all taken away, and all the land of Israel lies deserted! Yet a tenth – a remnant – will survive; and though Israel is invaded again and again and destroyed, yet Israel will be like a tree cut down, whose stump still lives to grow again.’” Isaiah 6:11-13
Got some good news and some not-so-great news. Which one you want first? Yeah, I like to eat my dessert last too, so here goes. Some folks just will not get the lesson until there is virtually nothing left to their life. You know, they are the ones we say, “Man, I thought THAT was their bottom, how much further can they sink?” Israel, like us, as a whole pulled themselves out from under God’s favor by repeated rebellion and disobedience. They mocked God through their sins. I don’t say that God brings the hammer down so much as He just backs up and lets the consequence take its course. On the other hand, even though a whole nation can go away from God, He will always have a remnant who will turn back. God will never be left without a witness. If you are the one who had a change of direction, you better shout because you are the stump! Even if the tree is gone, the stump can come back! Come on Stumpy, me and you got a little praising we need to do.
PRAYER: Lord, forgive me of any sin or anything that I do that isn’t right. Help me to be an overcomer. I want to be that tenth that You reserve for Yourself. I want to be that remnant. I want to be that stump with the branches growing out of the side. I want to live, truly live in Your presence. Lord, sweep through our nation and cause Your remnant to rise up, in Jesus’ name I pray, amen. |
