Ah, keeping up with the Jones. Might want to let that notion go. We have no idea if the Jones are even keeping up. They might be so far in debt they’re drowning. I truly don’t think the Lord has a problem with us having nice things in so far as they don’t have us. When we get hung up on getting the latest phone, computer, spa technique, etc., then our eyes are on this world more so than on the Kingdom of God. These things are passing away and we don’t need to put more of our passion and energy into attaining the world’s wealth than we do the spiritual. You can’t short cut your way to wealth with a façade either, it takes work and dedication to get to that place. Put your time in, appreciate what you have, and don’t let that lifestyle make you soft. Stay hungry my friend!
PRAYER: Lord, teach me to keep my eyes on the eternal. Help me not to get caught up in material objects and pleasure which are temporal and just passing away. I want to feed my spirit more than my flesh. Deliver me from the things that seem important but are truly empty. While I want to enjoy this life, I don’t want to be too attached to it. See You one day Lord! In Jesus’ name, amen. |
