Ezekiel 45:13-46:24, I Peter 1:13-2:10, Psalm 119:33-48, Proverbs 28:11
“Just tell me what to do and I will do it, Lord. As long as I live, I’ll wholeheartedly obey. Make me walk along the right paths, for I know how delightful they really are. Help me to prefer obedience to making money! Turn me away from wanting any other plan than Yours. Revive my heart toward You. Reassure me that Your promises are for me, for I trust and revere You. How I dread being mocked for obeying, for Your laws are right and good.” Psalm 119:33-39
Oh, my goodness, I marvel at how long ago this was written. It shows the human condition hasn’t changed through the years. The psalmist is asking God for a plan, he’s asking for His help in doing what is right because he knows his conscience will be soothed following God’s way. He’s repeatedly asking God to change His desires so he’ll want to do right. He wants to know solidly in his heart that what God says is true for him, “Are Your promises for me.” And lastly, even back then, nobody wanted to made fun of or excluded for following God.
PRAYER: Like the psalmist, I am asking You to give me a desire to do what You require. I want to be sheltered under Your wing. I trust You and I know in my heart, even with all of my shortcomings, Your Word is true, and it is for me. Break the fear of man off of me. My heart longs to be a bright beacon to those in darkness. Let me not fear their rebuffs. Love You Jesus. It’s in Your name I pray. Amen.
