Daniel 11:2-35, I John 3:7-24, Psalm 122:1-9, Proverbs 29:1
“The man who is often reproved but refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be broken and never have another chance.” Proverbs 29:1
This is one of the saddest statements in the Bible. I actually know this person. Hard-headed, arrogant, self-absorbed…Throughout life this person had many wonderful people, things and experiences. None of them were ever enough. Wouldn’t stay faithful to their spouse. Didn’t use wisdom with all the money and property they had. Sought more pleasurable experiences as opposed to doing the right thing. In old age, this person is alone and even with all the money that passed through their hand, doesn’t materially have a whole lot; nothing really. The years have humbled this person and a while back they told me that it’s a shame to finally learn all your lessons and have no one to share them with.
When people try to speak to you. When God is attempting to capture your attention. I want to encourage you to stop, listen, obey. You are not any more unique or special than the person I described. You won’t escape the fate of the obstinate. One day you will be broken without measure and the remorse and loss will be overwhelming. Take advantage of today. Love people, appreciate things and collect amazing experiences to look back on.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to have a teachable, grateful spirit. I pray to walk in humility. Show me how to love others and to look on their needs more than my own. I want to be more and more like You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
