Miracle Moment

Genesis 16-18:15; Matthew 6:1-24; Psalm 7; Proverbs 2:1-5

Jesus is teaching us to never act like we’re something we’re not. Listen to His teaching on giving and prayer:

“Do not your alms giving before men to be seen of them. Otherwise, you have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:1)

“And when you pray do not be as the hypocrites are. For they love to pray standing in the church and on the street corners that they may be seen of men. But when you pray enter into your closet and when you’ve shut the door pray to your Father which is in secret and your Father which sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:5-6)

Jesus is teaching us to not play church. Hypocrite’s actions reveal that on some level they don’t really believe. It’s a lack of intimacy with God. A lack of awareness of God’s presence. If we aren’t careful, we can find ourselves in this position. What can happen is that we get so caught up in day-to-day life that we lose sight of God. Church becomes a social fantasy. We start to give to be seen of men. We start to pray to be seen of men. This is a very dangerous place to be. When we give, it is to glorify God. When we pray, it is to meet with God and to have Him live through us. We become one with God.

Before we start our day, before we do anything, let’s touch base with Holy Spirit and keep our relationship fresh. This will prevent us from slipping into the mask of the hypocrite.

PRAYER:

God I choose to live my life for one reason and that is to bring You glory. I ask You to speak to my heart every day so that everything I do is inspired by You. Help me to keep my eyes on You. I bless You Lord with all my heart. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
