Genesis 41:17-42:17; Matthew 13:24-46; Psalm 18:1-15; Proverbs 4:1-6
“And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him. Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: ‘For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father’s house.’ And the name of the second he called Ephraim: ‘For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.” (Genesis 41:50-52)
I think we can all agree that Joseph is an authority on hard times, having been sold by his brothers into slavery, sold again, then falsely accused and imprisoned for probably 10-12 years of his young life. My goodness! Through all of those years Joseph held tight to his integrity and belief in God. At the end of those extremely hard years he begins to walk in the blessing. Not only is he elevated to number two man in the land, but he’s given a wife who bears him two boys. As we see from the above scripture, his boys’ names have significance pertaining to Joseph’s life. They declare where he’s been and where he is currently.
No matter what we go through in life, if we will just hold fast to the unchanging hand of God then everything will be alright. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, things will change and yes, the glass is half full! When God breaks through with the blessing you too will “forget all of the toil” you’ve experienced and God will take the thing you feared the most, the worst thing in the world that happened to you and use it to cause you to be “fruitful” in the land of your affliction.
PRAYER:
Lord, guide me as I walk through these land mines that I am facing. The enemy wants to defeat me but I call on You for strength. I refuse to give in to negativity and fear. My heart does safely trust in You. I believe that one day I will see the purpose in my pain and it will serve a role in shaping me, maybe even enabling me to help multitudes of people. Until that time, keep me Lord. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
