Jacob, who became Israel, dies. Wow, what a family history. As a young man Jacob steals his brother Esau’s birthright. Jacob’s name means deceiver, schemer, and through life as he grows and matures God changes his name to Israel meaning prince with God. Amazingly God is changing all of our names. We are moving from Jacob to Israel, from a deceiver to an over comer with God.
Now Israel has died and Joseph’s brothers are fearing for their lives. As you may recall they had sold Joseph into slavery. Joseph ended up in Egypt and because of God’s favor, rose to the top second only to Pharaoh. Be careful how you treat people. You never know, one day you may have to give an account to them. As Joseph was faithful to serve God, the Lord did great things in his life. In fact, God brought Joseph’s brothers to bow before him just as He showed Him in a previous vision.
As we are faithful, God will correct our enemies. Now Joseph’s brothers are begging him, fearing for their lives. Joseph said to them, “Fear not, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you thought evil against me but God meant it unto good to bring to pass as it is this day to save much people.” God did use Joseph to save people from all over the world.
I love Joseph’s heart. “Am I in the place of God?” In other words, “God is your judge and I give you to Him. I chose to trust God a long time ago. Even though you sold me out, God was still in control. I can’t lose with the stuff I use. My God is great and what you meant for evil God turned it into good.” Today, if you will trust God and believe Him He will turn your evil into good.
PRAYER:
God, I choose to trust You and look to You. No matter what people have done to me or said about me, I will be faithful and continue to believe in You. I will even pray for and bless my enemies. So God, have Your way in my life. To You be all the glory, honor and praise. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
