Deuteronomy 34:1 – Joshua 2:24; Luke 13:22-14:6; Psalm 79:1-13; Proverbs 12:26
“Moses was 120 years old when he died; his eyes were not weak, and his vitality had not left him. The Israelites wept for Moses in the plains of Moab 30 days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end.” (Deuteronomy 34:7-8)
“After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, who had served Moses: ‘Moses My servant is dead. Now you must and all the people prepare to cross over the Jordan to the land I am giving the Israelites. I have given you every place where the sole of your foot treads, just as I promised Moses.'” (Joshua 1:1-3)
Everyone born has an assignment and a certain amount of time allotted to them in which to complete their assignment. Moses had 120 fantastic years. He had his share of heartache and misery, but also experienced tremendous power, excitement and an intimate relationship with God Himself. What stories he must have to tell around the campfire in heaven huh.
Moses was the deliverer and leader of God’s people. God’s plan was to rescue His people from bondage and lead them into the Promised Land. Moses passed before he could see it fulfilled but God’s plan still moved forward. We see the people wept and mourned for Moses but after what I suppose the Lord felt was an appropriate amount of time, He declared, “Moses My servant is dead… NOW you must prepare…”
We hurt and grieve over our loved ones. We miss them, we wonder if they suffered, we have questions and they drive us. “Could I have done something to save him?” “Why her?” It’s healthy to grieve and everyone must do it in their own way and time. However, we cannot allow it to consume us. I’m sure that many of the Hebrews still had a void in their hearts for Moses. Probably when Joshua was taking over they may have said, “Moses wouldn’t have done it like that.” So we may have things that remind us of our loved one and bring up old wounds. That’s okay but we can’t allow it to cross over into a demonic realm of grief where we are consumed and cannot move forward. Our loved one has fulfilled their mission and gone on, we have to be courageous and keep moving. Their life here is complete, ours is not. The mission is still calling us to do our part. There are souls that are still seeking the freedom of the Promised Land. Let God heal you through your witness to them.
PRAYER:
Lord, I loose my loved one into Your hand. I pray that You would guide their spirit home. Give those of us left here the power and strength to carry on. I trust You that in time my heart will heal and life will make sense again. I pray to experience my pain, guilt and sorrow in a healthy manner and then be able to move forward with life. I know they would not want me to stay stuck. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen. |
