II Samuel 15:23-16:23, John 18:25-19:22, Psalm 119:113-128 Proverbs 16:10-11
“‘What are these for?’ the king asked Ziba. And Ziba replied, ‘The donkeys are for your people to ride on, and the bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat; the wine is to be taken with you into the wilderness for any who become faint.’ ‘And where is Mephibosheth?’ the king asked him. ‘He stayed at Jerusalem,’ Ziba replied. ‘He said, ‘Now I’ll get to be king! Today I will get back the kingdom of my father, Saul.'” II Samuel 16:2-3
WOW! How unbelievable. Never underestimate the ingratitude of people. David, against protocol, sought out any of Saul’s relatives he could find to bless. Mephibosheth was lame and the least but David took him in, gave him his grandfather’s property and instructed Ziba to serve him and take care of everything while Mephibosheth stayed on in the kingdom and ate at the king’s table every day. David treated him so well and here he is as soon as the opportunity presents itself, he turns on David. Wow, again. He definitely didn’t fall far from his grandfather’s tree. God told Saul when he was initially chosen, he was small in his own eyes. Meaning Saul was humble but as time went on power changed him. We see privilege changed Mephibosheth as well. As a child of God, we have so much access to blessing that we must be careful to not let it go to our heads. Humility always wears well, love always looks good, kindness and loyalty never go out of style. Make sure you dress well for the future.
PRAYER: Lord, no matter where this life takes me, I pray to remain humble, to be loyal to You and those who are in Christ. I am so grateful and acknowledge that everything I am and everything I have is from Your hand. Keep me Lord, amen.
