I Kings 22:1-53, Acts 13:16-41, Psalm 138:1-8, Proverbs 17:17-18
“It is poor judgment to countersign another’s note, to become responsible for his debts.” Proverbs 17:18
I don’t know about you, but I have enough to keep up with my own debts, I don’t need to take on another’s. I have wanted so badly to help friends who just needed a person to sign because they had no credit or had messed up in the past but had a record of doing well for many years but not long enough for creditors. I just can’t do it and I always defer to this scripture. It just isn’t wise. We don’t know what the future will hold for us, much less someone else. If you sign for them and hard times come, then it is your name on the line and your name is all you have. If you can help with cash, do that, but don’t attach your name. If it is the Lord’s will for them, then He will make a way.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to be bold and kind in my no. I don’t want to hurt anyone but by the same token I don’t want to be under that kind of pressure for years until something is paid off. I pray You will make a way for the needs of people. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
