II Kings 20:1-22:2, Acts 21:18-36, Psalm 150:1-6, Proverbs 18:9-10
“Hezekiah became deathly sick, and Isaiah the prophet went to visit him. ‘Set your affairs in order and prepare to die,’ Isaiah told him. ‘The Lord says you won’t recover.’ Hezekiah turned his face to the wall. ‘O Lord,’ he pleaded, ‘remember how I’ve always tried to obey you and to please you in everything I do…’ Then he broke down and cried. So, before Isaiah had left the courtyard, the Lord spoke to him again.” II Kings 20:1-3
In chapter 18 we read how there was no other king before or after Hezekiah who was as close to the Lord. When I read about Hezekiah’s death report, I see that even folks that love the Lord can get a bad diagnosis. Things happen in this life. We live in a sin-sick world and ever since sin entered, it has been on a steady decline. There is a bright spot in the story though. Because Hezekiah didn’t just give up and accept the report and because he reached out to the Lord, God had compassion on Hezekiah, sent the prophet back and healed him, giving him 15 more years. I’ve prayed the prayer of Hezekiah many times for myself and others. I believe that we are able to touch the Lord’s heart and that no prophecy or word are written in stone. That goes both ways too. If you receive a good word, you have to pray over it and watch for it. And, if you get a word you aren’t in agreement with, have a little talk with Jesus to see if He won’t turn it around.
I want to leave you with one more thing for free. Hezekiah was dying from a boil, probably some type of staph. When Isaiah returned, he gave the king the solution to his problem. Sometimes doctors and others will give up on you because they don’t know what to do. And sometimes if we seek the Lord, He may just give us the answer to our problem.
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for Your grace and mercy. My life is in Your hands and I trust and appreciate You so much. I am so excited for the day that we meet face to face. I just know it’s going to be amazing. I ask You to be continuously gracious to me while I’m here and help me to be a witness to everyone I meet. In Jesus’ name, amen.
