II Kings 22:3-23:30, Acts 21:37-22:16, Psalm 1:1-6, Proverbs 18:11-12

“The rich man thinks of his wealth as an impregnable defense, a high wall of safety. What a dreamer!” Proverbs 18:11

In 1929 the Great Depression began. The stock market crashed, banks failed, spending decreased, there were several things that came together about the same time, and we were unable to recover as a nation for quite a while. Many people who trusted in their wealth and could not see a path to victory without it actually committed suicide. That’s the tragedy of those who are wealthy and think that it can never end. There is always that possibility and we, as Christians, need to build up our treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21). Of course, we have to work and take care of our needs and provide for those around us, but our faith must not be in our wealth or our abilities to gain wealth. We need to keep coming back to square one to ensure our eyes are on the Lord and our hearts are in the right place. I never want to be so tied to money that I fall apart if it fails one day.

PRAYER: Lord, forgive me for ever trusting in money and resources. I acknowledge that everything I have and everything I am, is a result of Your hand on my life. If ever I get nervous, remind me again of who You are. Thank You for always being so faithful and for reaffirming my faith over again. I love You Lord. It’s in Your name I pray, amen.
