I Chronicles 22:1-23:32, Romans 3:9-31, Psalm 12:1-8, Proverbs 19:13-14
“Now do you see it? No one can ever be made right in God’s sight by doing what the law commands. For the more we know of God’s laws, the clearer it becomes that we aren’t obeying them; His laws serve only to make us see that we are sinners. But now God has shown us a different way to heaven – not by ‘being good enough’ and trying to keep His laws, but by a new way (though not new, really, for the Scriptures told about it long ago). Now God says He will accept and acquit us – declare us ‘not guilty’ – if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.” Romans 3:20-22
Hey, that is great news you old heathen! Didn’t you just know in your heart that you could never do it on your own. I tell you, no one had to tell me I was a sinner, it was obvious. Part of what prevented me from selling out to God was my fear that I couldn’t consistently keep the ten commandments. Come to find out, if I just trust what Jesus did for me that would be enough to save me and the rest would work itself out. The trick is this, once you are born again, your desires change and some of the strongest areas of weakness in your life are easier to overcome.
PRAYER: Lord, I pray for revelation concerning Jesus taking the penalty for sin. I need to know deep in my heart that my behavior modification attempts have done nothing to make me right in Your eyes. Thank You so much for loving people and providing a way for us to be made whole through Your sacrifice. Thank You also that once we receive Christ, we have the ability to conquer those areas that we want to move past. In Jesus’ name, amen.
