II Chronicles 1:1-3:17, Romans 6:1-23, Psalm 16:1-11, Proverbs 19:20-21
“Sin need never again be your master, for now you are no longer tied to the law where sin enslaves you, but you are free under God’s favor and mercy. Does this mean that now we can go ahead and sin and not worry about it? (For our salvation does not depend on keeping the law but on receiving God’s grace!) Of course not! Don’t you realize that you can choose your own master? You can choose to sin (with death) or else obedience (with acquittal). The one to whom you offer yourself – he will take you and be your master, and you will be his slave.” Romans 6:14-16
Remember the old Bob Dylan song, You’re Gonna Serve Somebody? Well, there’s a lot of truth to that. Paul says it like this, everyone is going to be a slave to something, either sin and unrighteousness or God and holiness. When we accept what Jesus has done for us, the power of our sin nature, while underlying, is broken. We now have the ability to break from things that held us back from doing right. We must now choose what we are going to do with this freedom. Will we move forward with loving God and growing in His way or will we choose to put the ball and chain of bondage back around our ankle. We have the power to conquer the desires of our bodies; choose to rule over it! You don’t have to be mad, addicted, scared, etc. because choosing Christ has set you free. Wake up, recognize your new gift and walk in it.
PRAYER: Lord, thank You so much for breaking the power of sin and death off of my life. I accept this and I choose to walk in it. I no longer desire to be held back by the desire of my flesh; I choose to be a conqueror. I know You will help me overcome anything I am struggling with. Amen.
