Nehemiah 1:1-3:14, I Corinthians 7:1-24, Psalm 31:19-24, Proverbs 21:4
“O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honoring You. Please grant me success today by making the king favorable to me. Put it into his heart to be kind to me. In those days I was the king’s cupbearer…Early the following spring, in the month of Nisan, during the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes’ reign…” Nehemiah 1:11-2:1a
Timing is everything. Nehemiah prayed for favor before going to see the king. It sounds like he was going right away, however, we see he bided his time until he felt it was right to bring it up. On this particular day, the king asked why he looked so sad. This was a great opening for Nehemiah to tell the king what was on his mind. Sometimes when something is happening in our lives and we really need to make a move on it, we may need to delay until we feel the Lord has given us the appropriate moment to act. When we ask God for favor, we don’t want to be afraid to wait for Him to move. We’ll know when the time is right because God will provide the opportunity.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to be so in tune with You that I can hear when You are giving direction. Teach me how to hear Your voice and to follow Your prompting so that I don’t miss opportunities. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
