Job 28:1-30:31; II Corinthians 2:12-17; Psalm 42:1-11; Proverbs 22:7
“Surely there is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined. Iron is taken from the ground, and copper is smelted from ore…But where can wisdom be found, and where is understanding located? No man can know its value, since it cannot be found in the land of the living…The price of wisdom is beyond pearls.” (Job 28:1-2, 12-13, 18)
Wisdom is definitely not something that can tangibly be gotten. Yet it’s worth more than any silver or gold you can possess. Wisdom is the ability to apply knowledge. There are two types of wisdom spoken of in the Bible. Wisdom from above and wisdom that is earthly and sensual. (James 3:15) We want to gain the Godly type. The earthly is spoken of in II Timothy 3:7, speaking of people who are ever learning but unable to perceive the truth. Sadly, that is the one that most folks run on. You and I have surely been guilty as well. Why do we do that? Basically, because we are following what comes naturally. Most of us were raised basic and earthly, not supernaturally, according to the dictates of the Word, so we find ourselves not putting into practice what the Bible considers true wisdom.
Where then does wisdom come from and where is understanding located? It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing…He (God) said to mankind, ‘Look! Fear of the Lord – that is wisdom, and to turn from evil is understanding.'” (V20-21, 28)
According to the above scripture, our basic starting point is to fear, or have respect for, the Lord and from that will arise the sense to apply wisdom by getting far from wickedness. From that position God is willing to share all of His wisdom with us. If we have the attitude that “we got this” then the Lord will back way up and let life teach its own lessons. We have so much to gain from being respectful and obedient to the Lord. I heard John Bevere say there is nothing good outside of the will of God. If we can just keep that in mind, then it will keep us from straying like Adam and Eve. Praying the wisdom of God for you.
PRAYER:
Lord, despite how I’ve been raised to depend on my own reasoning, I ask You to help me to see that if I revere and respect You that You will give me all the wisdom and knowledge I need to progress in life. I know in my spirit that to be led by You is the right thing, so I’m praying You will help me to cross over from my own natural mind to be supernaturally led by Your Holy Spirit. I humbly submit myself. Praying in the name of Jesus. Amen
