Ezekiel 7:1-9:11, Hebrews 5:1-14, Psalm 105:1-15, Proverbs 26:28
“You have been Christians a long time now, and you ought to be teaching others, but instead you have dropped back to the place where you need someone to teach you all over again the very first principles in God’s Word. You are like babies who can drink only milk, not old enough for solid food. And when a person is still living on milk it shows he isn’t very far along in the Christian life and doesn’t know much about the difference between right and wrong. He is still a baby Christian. You will never be able to eat solid spiritual food and understand the deeper things of God’s Word until you become better Christians and learn right from wrong by practicing doing right.” Hebrews 5:12-14
Spiritual growth isn’t judged by how much scripture we can quote, it is gauged by how much we are walking out. Anyone can espouse truth, but are we living it? It frustrates me sometimes when people excuse away bad behavior with the “grace” card. Look, we can all agree we are born again and gain access to the kingdom through accepting the sacrifice of Jesus. However, our salvation is expressed through a change of heart and action. If we have no obvious change in any area, we may need to check for a spiritual pulse. If our growth is slow, if we are still sipping on milk, then we can never go on to the deeper things of God till we pass the grade.
Who wants to sit in a poopy diaper all their life? I’m encouraging us all to grow so we can go. Don’t sit on the pew for twenty years, still offended, still not participating, still not serving, still making it all about yourself and thinking that you are a fully mature Christian because of the date of your salvation. Yep, I’m calling you out. Part the mustache and step away from the bottle…
PRAYER: Lord, help me to grow up. I don’t want to be a selfish child so many years into my salvation. Give me a desire to choose the right and to shun the wrong. Give me a desire for Your Word and spiritual disciplines. I need help. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
