Ezekiel 1:1-3:15, Hebrews 3:1-19, Psalm 104:1-23, Proverbs 26:24-26
“Beware then of your own hearts, dear brothers, lest you find that they, too, are evil and unbelieving and are leading you away from the living God. Speak to each other about these things every day while there is still time so that none of you will become hardened against God, being blinded by the glamour of sin. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as we did when we first became Christians, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.” Hebrews 3:12-14
Highlighting “being blinded by the glamour of sin.” Sin has such a draw if we allow ourselves to look twice. It glitters and taunts us to come out and play. One thing sin never does though and that is to show us the end product. When sin is calling it never says hey come have a drink with me so you can be an alcoholic with cirrhosis and die a horrible death. It never tells you about the disease lurking in the pants of that gorgeous person who is flirting with you. You never see upfront the marriage and family falling apart because of indiscretion. You might fit in with the crowd while you’re sharing secrets but what about the devastation of the person you exposed? You can’t win the game, it’s fixed for the house!
I’m telling you that if we continue to allow the things of the world to pull us in, it will eventually put a wall in between us and our God. We’ll fall off at church. We’ll put our Bible down, drift from our Christian friends and put God on the shelf. Happens every day. So incredibly sad. That’s why I’m taking a moment to encourage you to stand strong in your relationship with God and others in Christ. Even when we don’t “feel” God or we have desires to fill a hole with something from our past, resist the urge, trust God, remember your experiences with Christ and push through. You will find yourself growing, getting back to that place of first love.
PRAYER: Lord, I ask You to renew my heart. Give me a desire to know You and to stay close to You. Keep me from being blinded by sin. I know that sin can be very fun and fulfilling but I also know there is always a price to pay so I am praying You will put the end result in my mind as a way to help me resist. Love You Lord. It’s in Your name I pray, amen.
