Lamentations 1:1-2:22, Philemon 1:1-25, Psalm 101:1-8, Proverbs 26:20
“Fire goes out for lack of fuel, and tensions disappear when gossip stops.” Proverbs 26:20
Imagine that. Do you mean to tell me that people will stop being against one another when you remove the one stirring the pot? Obviously, gossip does pit one person against another. Even if what is being talked about is truth, sometimes it is not something that needs to be repeated. The person who breaks a confidence or spreads rumors is dangerous. People’s reputations have been ruined. Lives have been lost, families destroyed. It isn’t just a matter of innocently saying something benign; gossip is demonic. I knew a woman years ago who was the biggest gossip I had ever seen. She would betray a trust, she would talk about someone to one person and when that person left, she would talk about them to the next person. The worse thing about it was she had a devilish glint in her eye and seemed excited to see chaos or hatred ensue.
PRAYER: Lord, I pray for those who gossip and split relationships and harm people by exposing their secrets. I ask You to reveal truth to them. Let them know in their spirit how much damage they are causing. Let them see the demons behind what they are doing. Let them be afraid to be used by these malevolent spirits. Deliver them Lord. Keep me from falling into this trap as well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
