“A person who is pure of heart sees goodness and purity in everything; but a person whose own heart is evil and untrusting finds evil in everything, for his dirty mind and rebellious heart color all he sees and hears. Such persons claim they know God, but from seeing the way they act, one knows they don’t. They are rotten and disobedient, worthless so far as doing anything good is concerned.” Titus 1:15-16
Such an incredibly sad statement. After salvation, I noticed I didn’t think along the lines that I had at one time. Even though I have a tendency to be skeptical, I was willing to issue trust upfront until broken, then we’d have to move to a different level.
Yes, I’ve been used and made fun of for being naïve. It’s not so much that I am naïve as it is I want so badly to give people the opportunity to be their best self. I know what people are capable of but in Christ I see things from a different perspective. My mind doesn’t automatically go to the thought that this person can’t change or is not right because I know what Jesus has done in my own life. There are many people where my faith was not disappointed. They actually needed someone to believe in them in order to shine. Even the ones who were like the scripture, the ones who see everything tainted because of their own outlook, have been impacted by the kindness of those in Christ. Nothing is wasted in the kingdom; God uses it all. Keep a clean heart, it’s not worth the energy to be suspicious all the time. Use wisdom, of course, but don’t let a few bad eggs keep you from reaching out.
PRAYER: Lord, there are so many wicked people, sometimes they scare me, sometimes they just make me angry. Help me to keep my emotions in check. Guard my heart so that I don’t get bitter and hard against people. Protect me Lord. Touch those who are so broken, those who are evil, those who are cynical. Save them Jesus. In Your name I pray, amen.
