Jeremiah 37:1-38:28, I Timothy 6:1-21, Psalm 89:38-52, Proverbs 25:28

“Do you want to be truly rich? You already are if you are happy and good. After all, we didn’t bring any money with us when came into the world and we can’t carry away a single penny when we die. So we should be well satisfied without money if we have enough food and clothing. But people who long to be rich soon begin to do all kinds of wrong things to get money, things that hurt them and make them evil-minded and finally send them to hell itself. For the love of money is the first step toward all kinds of sin. Some people have even turned away from God because of their love for it, and as a result have pierced themselves with many sorrows.” I Timothy 6:6-10

Truth! First off, money is an inanimate object it is not evil. It our desire to put it before everything else or to gain it in any manner that is evil. Think about it. Why do people enslave others? To make big money by selling them to some other perverse person, as though a human being can be transferred to another like a piece of property. What about drug abuse. Greedy people draw others into addiction so they can have a steady buyer. The dealer and everyone above him in the chain of command could care less about the addicted person. There are people deep in government who cover for these traffickers of people and drugs. For them it’s more about power. This is a sin sick world we live in.

Live simple. While some people put space between themselves and God by making money unethically, others are separating from God because they don’t feel they have enough. They are angry. The Bible encourages us to be satisfied with what we have. Work hard, put your time in and live a good life surrounded with loved ones and friends. If you strike it big, don’t forget God and don’t let it consume you with pride and a false sense of security because I have never seen a U-Haul behind a hearse. Focus on the real, focus on eternity, focus on the important things which aren’t things at all…

PRAYER: Lord, keep my eyes on You. Help me to be like the apostle Paul, content with or without. I trust You and I know my level of finances will be based on what You feel I can handle and what my particular call requires. And Lord, I don’t want any more than that. Keep me in the center of Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
