Jeremiah 31:27-32:44, I Timothy 3:1-16, Psalm 88:1-18, Proverbs 25:20-22
“If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire upon is head, and the Lord will reward you.” Proverbs 25:21-22
God is the same, yesterday, today and forever. The proverb is giving us the same instruction that Jesus will reiterate to us in the New Testament. Treat people good despite how they treat you. Their shame will hopefully have the desired effect on their conscience and prayerfully they will change. Some people are deeply wounded and strike out at others. They make enemies everywhere because they simply don’t have the people skills because of their anger or brokenness. That’s not to say that some folks aren’t just down right nasty because we all know they exist too. If we will extend the kindness before it is deserved, reserve our judgment, stay free from offense and just think of a person as a struggling fellow human, then prayerfully the Lord will be able to use us to heal their hearts and transform their lives. Love and kindness are big tools; learn how to use them.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to overcome pettiness. Help me to see people through Your lens. I refuse to take offending words or deeds into my heart. I refuse to be contaminated by this world’s foolishness. Teach me to walk in love and peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
