Jeremiah 19:1-21:14, I Thessalonians 5:4-28, Psalm 82:1-8, Proverbs 25:9-10
“For you are all children of the light and of the day, and do not belong to darkness and night. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Watch for His return and stay sober. Night is the time for sleep and the time when people get drunk. But let us who live in the light keep sober, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the happy hope of salvation. For God has not chosen to pour out His anger upon us but to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ; He died for us so that we can live with Him forever, whether we are dead or alive at the time of His return. So, encourage each other to build each other up, just as you are already doing.” I Thessalonians 5:4-11
What are you doing at night? I’m sleeping, thank God. Before salvation, my answer would’ve been, “Getting lit of course.” Scripture encourages us to stay away from getting drunk. When we aren’t in our right minds, we tend to do and say things we wouldn’t normally do or say. It also opens us up to manipulation by some pretty unsavory spirits out there. You know, I think I’m just going to keep myself in faith, love and the happy hope of my salvation because I’m really looking forward to an eternity of peace with Jesus and not temporary stupor here.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for Your Word that teaches us to cover ourselves in Your love and Your offer of salvation. Thank You for the ability to completely trust You in all situations. I am so grateful that You are using these gifts to keep me sober, to keep me encouraged and to keep my mind on what is important. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
