Jeremiah 4:19-6:15, Colossians 1:18-2:7, Psalm 77:1-20, Proverbs 24:23-25
“A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?” Jeremiah 5:30-31
What will you do in the end? Man…God’s people were not seeking justice; they wouldn’t defend the poor or help those who had been abandoned. In other words, they had no heart for the most defenseless among us; they had no concern for impartiality. The worst thing was that these were just the symptoms of the deeper root and that root was they had no time for God.
No need in putting your hand to your mouth and declaring shock because this still happens today. We, who are called by His name, many times are so self-absorbed that reaching out to others is foreign. Lines are blurring, good is evil and evil is good, it’s getting harder for people to tell anymore, even in the body of Christ. There’s little compassion for the struggling. All is not lost though, there is an awakening happening throughout the world. God is opening our eyes, revealing truth and giving us a desire to know Him. As we flow toward God, He will move through us. It’s just a natural progression. Refuse to have itching ears that only want to hear pleasing words; reject the prophets and priests who don’t speak balanced truth that line up with the heart and character of God as found in His Word.
PRAYER: Lord, keep me from deception, keep me from selfishness; teach me who You are and help me to grow. I love You and I love people. My deepest wish is to point people to You and to prepare them for this walk. I’m counting on Your guidance, in Jesus’ name, amen.
