Jeremiah 6:16-8:7, Colossians 2:8-23, Psalm 78:1-31, Proverbs 24:26
“Therefore, do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” Colossians 2:16-17
I have some friends who are Christians but, in their quest to know God better, they want to learn about Judaism. They have attempted to eat kosher, celebrate Jewish holidays, etc. I have used this scripture many times to point out they are putting themselves back under the bondage that Jesus died to set them free from. In their hearts I’m sure they are trying to connect by learning the Jewish roots of Christianity, but we have to be careful not to make Christ’s sacrifice of no effect. Bottom line, there is nothing to be done to improve on Jesus’ gift to us.
PRAYER: Lord, I love the Jewish culture and I love learning about Passover and Sabbath and everything there is, but I have no desire to begin leaning on these rituals or holidays as part of my salvation package. Teach me everything about Yourself, Your people and Your heart. But also, Lord, I ask You to help me remain in Your grace while keeping me from putting myself under law.
