II Kings 4:18-5:27, Acts 15:1-35, Psalm 141:1-10, Proverbs 17:23
“Help me Lord, to keep my mouth shut and my lips sealed. Take away my lust for evil things; don’t let me want to be with sinners, doing what they do, sharing their delicacies. Let the godly smite me! It will be a kindness! If they reprove me, it is medicine! Don’t let me refuse it. But I am in constant prayer against the wicked and their deeds. When their leaders are condemned, and their bones are strewn across the ground, then these men will finally listen to me and know that I am trying to help them.” Psalm 141: 3-7
I like this guy’s heart. David was a human and not near about perfect, but his heart was perfect and that is what God is looking for. Not only does he ask God to change the desires of his heart, but he also asks God to send other believers to correct him and hold him accountable. We all need good counsel, it’s a difficult thing to try to break free and change on our own. David also prays for others who are struggling with sin. He hopes that when the leaders receive judgment for their sin, because sin always comes with a consequence, that the others will see that he was just trying to protect them from the same. People may look at you as self-righteous but don’t let it stop you from trying to warn them from walking a path apart from God, just do it in with the right heart and attitude. In the end, they’ll know you cared.
PRAYER: Lord, I pray like David that You would help me conquer the lust and desire to do what sinners do. I pray that You will surround me with wise people who truly care and will call me out on my foolishness when necessary. Help me to also reach out to others with Your truth to spare them heartache. My heart is Yours; I love and appreciate You, in Your name I pray, amen.
