II Samuel 19:11-20:13, John 21:1-25, Psalm 120:1-7, Proverbs 16:16-17
“Jesus said this to let him know what kind of death he would die to glorify God. Then Jesus told him, ‘Follow Me.’ Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved following, the one who leaned around at supper that time to ask Jesus, ‘Master, which of us will betray you?’ Peter asked Jesus, ‘What about him, Lord? What sort of death will he die?’ Jesus replied, ‘If I want him to live until I return, what is that to you? You follow me.'” John 21:19-22
Jesus just tells Peter how his life will come to a close. Not satisfied with knowing just his fate he inquires how John will die as well. So funny. I can just see these two guys. Peter is gruff and John is the one laying on Jesus’ chest. Such a rivalry between the two. Notice this is John’s book also. He refers to himself as the one Jesus loved. *Laughing* Like Jesus didn’t love all of His disciples. I think the phrasing was just a personal dig on Peter. Anyway, Jesus, not getting sucked into their delusion, tells Peter it’s not his business what happens with John.
Jesus tells us today not to look at other people, mind your business. What He requires of you and how He deals with you is particular to you. How He deals with someone else is His business. Honestly, through the years I’ve learned it’s best just to deal with my cross and my consequences because you never know what people have walked through in life or what they will face in the future. Trust God and stay in your lane, running your race.
PRAYER: Lord, my eyes are on You. Forgive me for comparing myself to others or for being envious of their circumstances. I know that You are an on-time, personal God and it is totally Your business as to how You bless and correct us. Love and appreciate You and Your wisdom. Amen.
