| II Samuel 1:1-2:11, John 12:20-50, Psalm 118:19-29, Proverbs 15:27-28
“Open the gates of the temple – I will go in and give Him my thanks. Those gates are the way into the presence of the Lord, and the godly enter there. O Lord, thank You so much for answering my prayer and saving me.” Psalm 118:19-21
In John 10:9, Jesus declares that He is the Gate and anyone entering through this Gate will be saved. It brings a tear to my eye when I think that this Psalm was written so long before the birth of Jesus and the book of John. The Bible confirms truth in my heart when I consider that it was written over such a span of time by so many different authors, yet it has a consistent story of redemption that runs through it.
Later in the Psalm it speaks of a cornerstone. Paul the apostle called Jesus our cornerstone. A cornerstone is the first brick laid. It sets the foundation for the rest of the building. Indeed, Jesus is both our Gate and our Cornerstone. He is our way into the Kingdom of God and He is our foundation on which we build our lives.
PRAYER: Lord, I receive You as my Gate. I thank You that You have provided a way into Your Kingdom for me. Thank You for forgiving me of my sins and cleaning my heart. Thank You for being my Cornerstone, for giving me direction on how to live the abundant life. Honestly, I wasn’t doing too good without You. I give You praise for all the kindness You have shown to the human race. Help those of us who know You to be a good light to those who haven’t found their way yet. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen. |
