The Devil’s a Dirty Dog!

Ezra 3:1-4:23; I Corinthians 2:6-3:4; Psalm 28:1-9; Proverbs 20:24-25

“They sang with praise and thanksgiving to the Lord: ‘For He is good; His faithful love to Israel endures forever.’ Then all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord because the foundation of the Lord’s house had been laid.” (Ezra 3:11)

Sacrifices are in place, worship is back on track and the foundation of the temple is laid. The Israelites are heading in the right direction after being side-tracked for a while. As we just read they are shouting and full of praise and excitement. You know how it is, you got yourself going in the right direction and thinking everybody’s going to be high-fivin’ you and patting you on the back when all of sudden you realize you’ve got some bad folks trying to play you. Unfortunately the enemy of our soul is never excited about the progression of God’s kingdom or His people. Just when things are heading in the right direction it’s just like the enemy to throw a monkey wrench into the plan. But it’s all good because our God is all powerful, not the devil.

Satan will use any resource that he has to bring us down and to stop or derail our destiny. It is vital that we align ourselves with those that the Lord has given to us to support and protect the call on our lives. We must not listen to the nay-sayers or haters that will try to stall us out by discouraging or disparaging us. We can see four of Satan’s basic strategies in Chapter 4. The first one is deception. “When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the returned exiles were building a temple for the Lord, the God of Israel, they approached Zerrubbabel and the leaders of the families and said to them, ‘Let us build with you, for we also worship your God…” (4:1-2) Those people were no more concerned with worshiping God than the man in the moon. Believe it or not, you are going to come across “enemies” in your life that will strictly mislead, lie and otherwise try to delude you in order to stop the growth in your life. Crazy huh but true. Be aware.

The second tactic of the enemy is to use discouragement. “Then the people who were already in the land discouraged the people of Judah and made them afraid to build.” (4:4) If he can’t get you off track through deception then he will surely attempt to cause fear to rise up within you. HEY! If God put you on a track and gave you vision for something then stay focused. He that began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it. Don’t let fear grip you. It’s understandable that it may come up but you must not let it take root or you’ll be stifled.

If Satan fails with these two areas then his next maneuver is really dirty – bribery. “They also bribed officials to act against them to frustrate their plans…” (4:5) People led by bad spirits will look for other corrupt people in positions of power to help them set you up. Their hopes are to stall you out. Anything to keep you from moving forward.

The devil’s last approach is to bring accusations against you. “…the people who were already in the land wrote an accusation against the residents of Judah and Jerusalem.” (4:6) He will try to make you look bad on a public level even bringing up old things just to stir mess. I’m telling you, the devil absolutely does not play fair. But don’t be moved by all of this foolishness, it’s merely Satan kicking up heel dust on his way out.

PRAYER:

Lord, I’m praying for myself and others that are going through the attacks of the enemy right now. I pray You will help us to stay focused on You so that we can press through and accomplish our destinies. Help us to always be aware of the tactics of the enemy. Give us wisdom on how and when to fight and when to let You take over. God You are good all of the time and I love You so much. I know that no matter what Your perfect plan will prevail. I trust that. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Pastor Ricky and Jeannie Sinclair

From Ricky’s book, Miracle-at-Large, Ricky became an evangelist spreading the word of God through his testimony. He was a fire. He would go in, light it up and encourage people in the places he shared his testimony. When you’re an evangelist, you breeze in and breeze out, and you don’t have to worry about hurting anyone. But that was the start of the ministry. His evangelism was birthed from the book that came out, which gave him a platform. People started following us and we gave them resources and suggested churches to get plugged into. However, we developed a following of people that would not go anywhere else but honestly, it was not in our heart to start a physical church.

With us not wanting to turn people away, we started meeting together as a prayer group and started having a little teaching within the prayer group. But then, we were bursting out of our living room. Our house could squeeze 30 to 60 people in it butt here was not much you can do in it anymore with people wall-to-wall. We had John Mayers and his wife leading worship through singing and playing a guitar. We had all the elements for church, which led to people pressing us to start a church and they wouldn’t go anywhere else. With us growing but not ready for a church, we had to look into bigger spaces and started with one conference room in a hotel. However, we eventually consumed every conference room in the hotel as we continued to grow.

As we grew, we saw a lot of gifts and opportunities. As a result, we wanted to start a physical church where everybody was included and invited. Even if they seemed like they didn’t fit into a“traditional church”, they would be accepted at our church. I sought God and God spoke to my heart and said, “I want you to start a church and I’m going to send everybody that is like you to the church. You will have a church and they’ll be other churches, too. There will be people that I send to those churches, but you will become your own individual church with the people that I’m creating and building for your church.” That’s how we became our own identity and individual church with our own personality that God established because God put this in Ricky’s heart. Everyone from various backgrounds would be welcomed as family and they would have a place for them to go to church in a family… MiraclePlace Church.

Here we are still standing today with the same message from 2001: Everyone from various backgrounds are welcomed as family and this is a place for you to actually go to church in a family… Miracle Place Church in Baker, LA. Come as you are, You Belong Here!
