Miracle Moment

January 3, 2025
II Kings 3:1-4:17; Acts 14:8-28; Psalm 140:1-13; Proverbs 17:22

“One of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, ‘Your servant, my husband, has died. You know that your servant feared the Lord. Now the creditor is coming to take my children as his slaves.’ Elisha asked her, ‘What can I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?’ She said, ‘Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.'” (II Kings 4:1-2)

Many times, we don’t think we possess anything of value. Many times, we overlook the common that God can supernaturally use to bless us. Elisha asked the woman what she had in the home. “Oh, nothing but this jar of oil.” Elisha said, “GREAT!” Then he told her to go borrow as many jars as possible and fill them all from that one little jar. She had to humble herself and reach out to her neighbors for help. God will make provision for us, but he uses circumstances like this to keep us interdependent upon one another. If we never needed anything, most of us would just keep to ourselves. God wants us in relationship with each other. Even shy people and loners have to reach outside of themselves in order to build friendships. Truly, no man is an island.

“When they were full, she said to her son, ‘Bring me another container.’ But he replied, ‘There aren’t any more.’ Then the oil stopped.” (4:6)

When they reached what they needed to make it through the crisis, the oil ceased. God knows how to provide for His people. That one little jar of oil became her livelihood that saved her and her children. Where is your jar of oil? What gifts, talents or physical items do you have on hand that God can use? Have you taken the time to build relationships?

PRAYER:

Lord, teach me how to develop healthy friendships. Show me how to see the things of value in my life and help me to believe in the supernatural. I yield to You and I am very excited to watch what You are going to do in my life. I trust You. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
