“While Peter was thinking about the vision, the Spirit told him, ‘Three men are here looking for you. Get up, go downstairs, and accompany them with no doubts at all, because I sent them.’ Then Peter went down to the men and said, ‘Here I am, the one you’re looking for. What is the reason you’re here?’ They said, ‘Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who has a good reputation with the whole Jewish nation; was divinely directed by a holy angel to call you to his house and to hear a message from you.'” (Acts 10:19-22)
Being in a pastoral position for a while I’ve had several people give me a “word from God.” Many times it just didn’t bear witness with my spirit. I mean sometimes it was totally opposite to the way God was leading me. The Lord will always confirm a word for you or the Word will always confirm what He has put in your heart. Don’t blindly follow a “word” if it doesn’t line up with what the Lord has given you.
It was easy for Peter to listen to these men and follow their lead because God had already given him a vision and a word prior to their arrival. So if someone says, “God told me that you will soon be adopting a Chinese baby girl.” and you never, ever even had an inkling of that, then hold your horses and wait on God. As noble as that sounds, don’t do something just because someone told you to.
PRAYER:
Lord help me to pursue Your lead. I pray against a spirit of deception on myself. Teach me to know Your voice and to follow You closely. I submit to You. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen. |
