“So when they had come together, they asked Him, ‘Lord, at this time are You restoring the kingdom to Israel?’ He said to them, ‘It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:6-8)
The Jewish people were looking for a messiah that was coming to reestablish the kingdom and get them out from under Roman rule. They were looking for a unifier who would bring the people together under one banner. Many saw early on that Jesus wasn’t that guy so they rejected Him. But Jesus was “that guy,” He just didn’t come with the force and plan of action everyone was anticipating. Jesus came to deal with humans on a deeper level and on a broader scale, not just to restore one nation but to bring all people into relationship with Himself. He broke down many barriers and brought spiritual freedom to the masses. I say all of this because now that He has shown His power through His resurrection the disciples want to know, is now the time of the kingdom.
Jesus tells them and He tells us that it is not our business to know the full plan of God. It is above our pay grade, if you will. If we knew everything that was in the heart of God and if we knew how the future was going to fall into place it would probably fry our little brains. Can you imagine? Jesus assured the disciples, and He assures us all we need to know is that God is with us through Holy Spirit and we have been given everything we need to make it through this life. So, my advice to myself and to you is that we need to deal with what is in front of us and not worry about things that are out of our control. Just know that God has it all in the palm of His hand. Don’t stress over tomorrow because God is already there!
PRAYER:
Lord, I ask You to speak peace to my heart. Forgive me for being so forward and nosy. It’s my tendency to want to control my surroundings. I surrender to You knowing that You are faithful, and You have our best interest at heart. I submit to Your plan. I love You Lord and it’s in Your name that I pray. Amen. |
