Miracle Moment

December 6, 2024
II Samuel 7:1-8:18; John 14:15-31; Psalm 119:33-48; Proverbs 15:33

“Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me.” (John 14:1)

Throughout this chapter Jesus is strongly asserting that He and the Father are one, if we know Him then we know the Father. He came to physically display the character of God.

Jesus comforted His disciples by telling them that He was going to prepare a place for them so that they can come with Him. Thomas told Jesus they didn’t know where He was going so how could they possibly know the way. “Jesus told him, ‘I am the WAY, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'” (V6)

Well, there you go, a roadmap. If we’ll just know Him then we’ll have no problem finding our way home. He is the WAY! You know there’s a story about a country doctor who brought his dog to work one day. He and his patient were in a room talking about the patient’s terminal diagnosis and the patient admitted He was afraid because He didn’t know what was on the other side of death. At that moment they could hear the dog pawing on the door wanting to come in because he heard his master’s voice. The doctor told his patient, “You know, my dog has never been in this room. He doesn’t know what is awaiting him here, but he hears my voice and knows that as long as his master is in here then everything will be alright.”

We need to be as simple as that dog and just know Jesus will take care of us here and He will greet us and take care of us there once we arrive. No fears, no worries. “Peace, I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.” (V27)

It’s so important that we know Him and that we receive that peace. That peace will keep us out of fear and distraction because we need to be as mentally and spiritually prepared as possible because Jesus said we who believe in Him will do greater works than what He did. Why? Possibly because He will be working on our behalf, whatever is asked in His name will be done. That doesn’t mean you can pray in the pink Cadillac, what it does mean is if anything is asked according to His character and will, it will be granted.

What is the character and will of God? Asking God to give you money for a bag of marijuana in Jesus’ name is probably not going to fall within His character or will. Asking God for the salvation of your family members would be within His character and will. Make sense? Also, Jesus said we would be empowered with the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit counsels us, speaks to us, brings things to remembrance, comforts us, etc.

And lastly, there are more of us to get the work done. Jesus was only one person but now He has all of us filled with His Spirit, praying to the Father in His name and greater, broader works are happening. What will you do with the gifts, talents and power that have been delegated to you?

PRAYER:

Lord, I pray to stay in a place of peace. Help me to keep my eyes on You, trusting You in all things. I pray to be one with You and one with my brothers and sisters in Christ so that we can all flow together to perform these great works. I bind up the spirit of fear, I choose to allow Your perfect love to cast out this fear in Jesus’ precious name I pray, Amen.
