II Samuel 4:1-6:23; John 13:31-14:14; Psalm 119:17-32; Proverbs 15:31-32

 

King David has come a mighty long way since he first encountered the prophet Samuel back in I Samuel 16. The Lord had chosen him and as He was revealing David to the prophet, He said, “Man does not see what the Lord sees, for man sees what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.” The Lord tells the prophet this because David was the youngest, least experienced and probably the least impressive of Jessie’s sons. But despite the exterior, God has chosen what turns out to be the most passionate king Israel ever had. David was chosen and anointed by God.

 

After the death of King Saul, David is anointed king over Judah, and in II Samuel 5:3, David becomes king over Israel as well. So now David has united Judah and Israel. All of the people have acknowledged and anointed him as their king.

 

“When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they all went in search of David…” (II Samuel 5:17) The Philistine’s were life-long enemies of David, they seem to continually pop up. For us they are representative of demons, people that oppose and hinder our success, inner doubts, any enemies to our God-given authority and vision. When the Philistines set up against David to conquer him, he sought the Lord for direction, a word.

 

“Then David inquired of the Lord: ‘Should I go to war against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?’ The Lord replied to David, ‘Go, for I will certainly hand the Philistines over to you.’ So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated them there and said, ‘Like a bursting flood, the Lord has burst out against my enemies before me.’ Therefore, he named that place the Lord Bursts Out.” (I Samuel 5:19)

 

Just in case you don’t get it, these are “great news” scriptures. Before he was ever known, David was chosen and approved by God, then after many years of character building (lol), God opens the door and David is then received and anointed by the people. Of course nothing worth having comes easy, but woohoo, David finds himself in Baal-perazim (Baal=Lord, owner; perazim=breakthrough)!

 

God has a plan for you, you are His jewel. To some, you may not appear to be much, but to God you are the epitome of His creation. He sees your potential, your heart, who you will be. After you are tempered by life, the Lord will give you acceptance among men. When you are stuck and surrounded by nay-sayers, demonic forces, or even battling the thoughts of your own mind, if you will just seek a word from God, He will bring you to Baal-perazim, He will be your “Lord of the Breakthrough!” And that my friend is great news.

 

PRAYER:

Lord, help me to see that You are no respecter of persons, what You have done for King David You will gladly do for me. You will help me to breakthrough any area of my life that I am struggling with. Also, show me myself through Your eyes. I pray to have as close of a relationship with You as King David did. It is my heart’s desire to be able to speak to You and hear from You on such an intimate level. Forgive me of anything that would hinder our relationship from growing. This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

From Ricky’s book, Miracle-at-Large, Ricky became an evangelist spreading the word of God through his testimony. He was a fire. He would go in, light it up and encourage people in the places he shared his testimony. When you’re an evangelist, you breeze in and breeze out, and you don’t have to worry about hurting anyone. But that was the start of the ministry. His evangelism was birthed from the book that came out, which gave him a platform. People started following us and we gave them resources and suggested churches to get plugged into. However, we developed a following of people that would not go anywhere else but honestly, it was not in our heart to start a physical church.

With us not wanting to turn people away, we started meeting together as a prayer group and started having a little teaching within the prayer group. But then, we were bursting out of our living room. Our house could squeeze 30 to 60 people in it butt here was not much you can do in it anymore with people wall-to-wall. We had John Mayers and his wife leading worship through singing and playing a guitar. We had all the elements for church, which led to people pressing us to start a church and they wouldn’t go anywhere else. With us growing but not ready for a church, we had to look into bigger spaces and started with one conference room in a hotel. However, we eventually consumed every conference room in the hotel as we continued to grow.

As we grew, we saw a lot of gifts and opportunities. As a result, we wanted to start a physical church where everybody was included and invited. Even if they seemed like they didn’t fit into a“traditional church”, they would be accepted at our church. I sought God and God spoke to my heart and said, “I want you to start a church and I’m going to send everybody that is like you to the church. You will have a church and they’ll be other churches, too. There will be people that I send to those churches, but you will become your own individual church with the people that I’m creating and building for your church.” That’s how we became our own identity and individual church with our own personality that God established because God put this in Ricky’s heart. Everyone from various backgrounds would be welcomed as family and they would have a place for them to go to church in a family… MiraclePlace Church.
