“In addition, every man who was desperate, in debt, or discontented rallied around him, and he became their leader. About 400 men were with him.” (I Samuel 22:2)
You remember the story about Robin Hood? He was the outlaw that robbed from the rich and gave to the poor. He was a magnet for the disenfranchised, the outcast, the one’s seeking a change of leadership. David found himself in this position. All of these men began showing up and pledging their allegiance to him. They hid in caves and stayed on the run with him for, shoot, I don’t know how long. It’s amazing how God can draw people to you, and they will walk through the fires of hell with you. Now some of these folks may not be what you were wishing for. They have issues, attitudes and hang ups, but they are loyal, and they need your leadership just as much as you need them.
Don’t grumble about the people around you but rather take those who God has placed in your life and sow into them. Teach them everything you know about the Lord and how to grow as a person. As you give to them, they will in turn give to you. They will be your strength, your protection, your friends and they will one day develop into a fine army. So on your job, ministry or home, be the leader God has called you to be. Invest in those around you because God is counting on you.
PRAYER:
Father, thank You for investing in me and thank You for surrounding me with broken people who need me. I ask You to soften my heart toward them and give me wisdom on how to develop them as well as myself. I realize that I need them as much as they need me. I am humbled. I love You Lord. It’s in Your name that I pray. Amen. |
