| Judges 8:18-9:21; Luke 23:44-24:12; Psalm 99:1-9; Proverbs 14:9-10
“The mighty King loves justice. You have established fairness; You have administered justice and righteousness in Jacob…Moses and Aaron were among His priests; Samuel also was among those calling on His name. They called to the Lord, and He answered them. He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud; they kept His decrees and the statutes He gave them. Lord our God, You answered them. You were a God who forgave them but punished their misdeeds.” (Psalm 99:4, 6-8)
There are a few of God’s great leaders listed above and they are commended for following the statutes of God. Like all human beings they failed from time to time. To this the psalmist says that God forgave their shortcomings, but they still had to reap the consequence of their action.
So it is with us. God loves us and is quick to forgive us when we repent, however, we can expect to be chastened. God is so good that hardly any of us actually get what we deserve but He does issue a measure of correction in order to teach us, just like any good parent would do. True love is found in the balance of forgiveness and discipline.
PRAYER:
Lord, I submit myself to You and ask that You would forgive me for sin I have committed. Heal my missteps and develop me into a solid person of God. My heart is after You. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen. |
