“I love to do God’s will so far as my new nature is concerned; but there is something else deep within me, in my lower nature, that is at war with my mind and wins the fight and makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. In my mind I want to be God’s willing servant, but instead I find myself still enslaved to sin. So, you see how it is, my new life tells me to do right, but the old nature that is still inside me loves to sin. Oh, what a terrible predicament I’m in! Who will free me from my slavery to this deadly lower nature? Thank God! It has been done by Jesus Christ our Lord. He has set me free.” Romans 7:22
What! Even in Christ, the struggle is real…No need to give up and run away though because God will help you to overcome whatever needs to be broken off in your life. You are not alone; we all battle the desires of our bodies. Our bodies want to sleep with people we aren’t married to, our bodies want to eat extra cake, our bodies want to smoke, etc. I want to encourage you to press on, God has made the way through Jesus and if you will lay that struggle before Him, I promise He will help you conquer it.
PRAYER: Lord, I ask You to break the desires that I have for sin. Cause my desire for You and to do what is right to override anything within me that isn’t right. My heart does not want to do anything that is bad for me or anything that would offend You or bring shame to Your name. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
