“When the wicked dies, his expectation comes to nothing, and hope placed in wealth vanishes.” (Proverbs 11:7)
Some folks sadly invest all of their lives in building wealth and reputation. While there is nothing wrong with that when done in balance, it cannot be the center of our existence. While we are eternal beings, we must recognize that our lives here are temporary. Only what we do for God and people will last. When our time here is over what will we bring into eternity? If we put God on the shelf and live any ol’ kind of way, trusting in our riches to get us through, then what will we do when we give an account for ourselves. What will we show for the time we were given?
I beg of you not to put all of your “eggs” in the carnal, temporal basket. Use wisdom, invest yourselves in things of lasting value, a child, a struggling or hurting person, the addicted, the imprisoned. Meet their practical needs and share the purpose, joy and peace you have found in Jesus. Give your time and resources to something bigger than yourself. Make a difference for the glory of God.
PRAYER:
Father, I ask You to forgive me for living like this life is all there is. You have put eternity in my heart, remind me always that I am here for a purpose. I am here to serve and not to advance my own personal kingdom. When all of this is over, I pray to have many crowns to throw at Your feet. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen. |
