“Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, leaves his wife behind, and leaves no child, his brother should take the wife and produce offspring for his brother. There were seven brothers…The seven also left no offspring. Last of all, the woman died too. In the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be, since the seven had married her?” (Mark 12:19-20a, 22-23)
“Jesus told them, ‘Are you not deceived because you don’t know the Scriptures or the power of God? For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like angels in heaven. Now concerning the dead being raised – haven’t you read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how God spoke to him: I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are badly deceived.” (12:26-27)
Jesus was doing us a great favor by giving us a glimpse of how things are in the spiritual realm of heaven. For starters, no one there is dead, heeeeyyy! I was pretty excited to see that, I bet you were too huh. Of a truth, God is the God of the living, not the dead, spiritually and physically. When we cease to exist in this world we will merely pass through a portal to our next stage of life. Be at peace, for your loved ones and yourself. When we close our eyes in sleep here they will open to the face of God in heaven. What a great day that will be. There will no longer be any struggle with and in our flesh! Hooray!!
This fact leads us into our next topic and that is relationships and physical desires. Jesus told the Sadducees that we will be LIKE the angels, we won’t be angels because they are a different species, if you will. But we will favor them more than we do now. The biggest difference it seems is that we won’t have the same longing for one another. I’m married so that is kind of scary. I can’t imagine not being the only one in my love’s eyes. Because we are in the presence of God, He will truly be our greatest desire. No more battling to put Him first. Also, we will all know each other and it will be on a different level, no more third wheel! We’ll all like each other and we’ll be equal too, cool huh.
There will be no more pressures to pay bills, to live up to another’s expectations, no more sexual tension or addictive cravings. No, we’ll be free and our appetites will no longer hunger for one another like they do now because God will fill every need, every void. Shoot, I love y’all, but I’m like a pregnant lady, I keep a bag packed. If I go first, don’t cry for me. Live for God and I’ll see you on the light side of the moon.
PRAYER:
Lord, forgive my ignorance and deception. You are so incredible. I sometimes forget how supernaturally powerful You are. Your world is reality and truth, not this matrix we live in here. God our hearts long for You. Come Lord Jesus and receive us into Your kingdom of peace. Love You, it’s in Your name that I pray. Amen. |
