Miracle Moment

“Now the Lord had said to Abram: ‘Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him…

Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘To your descendants I will give this land.’ And there he built an altar to the Lord who had appeared to him. And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. So Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.” (Genesis 12:1-4, 7-9)

God calls all of us out of our comfort zone. He requires us to leave behind our family heritage and our nationality in order to make us one in Him. When we become part of God’s family it is so that we will not only be blessed ourselves but like it says above so that we can be a blessing.

Abram journeyed on away from his homeland seeking his God. On his path he had an encounter with God and built an altar. Abram moved on from there a little closer to a place called Bethel, (meaning in the Hebrew ‘house of God’) and there he pitched his tent and erected another altar and called on the name of the Lord. When we become born again, we are ever moving closer to the presence of God, erecting altars of worship and remembrance for all He has done and for all He means to us.

Because of a famine, Abram found himself in Egypt. Fear gripped him (the father of faith) and he asked his wife Sarai to lie and say that she was his sister. Pharaoh thought she was gorgeous, and available, so he brought her into his house and treated Abram well.

“But the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. And Pharaoh called Abram and said, ‘What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’? I might have taken her as my wife. Now therefore, here is your wife; take her and go your way.’ So Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they sent him away, with his wife and all that he had.” (12:17-20)

“Then Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, to the South. Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. And he went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord.” (13:1-4)

Sometimes circumstances will arise in our lives that we are unsure of how to handle. Sometimes we may revert to our pre-Christian way of dealing with issues which may not be how God would have us to handle it. But God is faithful. He never left Abram or Sarai and even made a way of escape for them. Abram, knowing God’s hand when He sees it, returned back to where He was in the beginning. You may find yourself off track in life from time to time and maybe you haven’t conducted yourself in the most Christianly fashion, but know this, you are called, and God is with you and wants to help you find your way. Go back to your tent near the house of God, Bethel, back to that altar of worship and call on the name of your God. He is there waiting for you…

PRAYER:

Lord, forgive me if ever I get off track. Help me to be faithful to You. I pray You would even protect others from my bad decisions. I’m mentally, physically and spiritually returning to Bethel so that I can seek Your face. You’ve been nothing but good to me and I owe you everything. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
