| Genesis 1:1-2:25; Matthew 1:1-2:12; Psalm 1:1-6; Proverbs 1:1-6
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore, the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” (Psalm 1)
You do realize that God runs on an entirely different level than the system of this world. When you receive Christ and become born again, you may not be able to go to those you used to run to for advice. For instance, if someone does you wrong and you’re upset you may go and vent to an old friend. The friend tells you how lousy the person is and that you should do something to “show them.” God’s Word tells us that we are to walk in forgiveness and that all vengeance is His, He will repay. (Luke 17:4; Romans 12:19)
Now was your friend a bad person. No, not at all, they were just trying to help. However, they are lost and they deal with situations from a lost person’s perspective. You are saved, your eyes have been opened and you are expected to handle things according to God’s Word. We may not hit the mark 100 percent of the time, but we need to strive to seek God’s face and heart concerning how we are to behave, not people that don’t understand.
What’s the best way to know God’s will? Simply by meditating on His Word. Read it, ponder it and digest it. The more time we devote to contemplating God’s Word the more we’ll find we know Him and are more likely to respond accordingly. It’s amazing really, those words are alive, they become more than ink on the page.
So you want to blessed? Then don’t seek advice from people who aren’t spiritually minded. Don’t run with the sinners any more. Love them, be a light to them, but don’t hang out and participate in things they do that are contrary to God. Don’t be an angry, abusive person. Relax and trust God that things are going to work out. You don’t have to be that way. Scorn is an act of the flesh and the flesh can be brought under control by walking in the Spirit. (Romans 8:1-9) And above all, stay in the Word!
PRAYER:
Lord, I lay my life before You and ask You to cleanse me from every wicked way. I pray to not rely on the counsel of those who don’t know You. Help me to renew my mind and my actions according to Your Word. I pray many will come to Christ because of the peace and joy that I exhibit due to knowing You. Your Word is literally transforming my life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. |
