“She is a woman of strength and dignity and has no fear of old age. When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule for everything she says…Charm can be deceptive and beauty doesn’t last, but a woman who fears and reverences God shall be greatly praised. Praise her for the many fine things she does. These good deeds of hers shall bring her honor and recognition from people of importance.” Proverbs 31:25-26, 30-31
In our shallow world so many look down on the aged. Theirs may no longer be a beauty of physicality but instead a beauty of wisdom and endurance. We can’t comment on the older because we haven’t lived their years. They made it! And we may have a long way to go. We never know what adventures and adversaries they have faced, or we will face. Will we do as well? Will we stand the test of time? We can always respect them for their fortitude if nothing else. Many fear losing their looks and vitality. Don’t. Accept aging as the normal process of life. Embrace your wrinkles and graying hair, the certain failures of your body. It is an honor when your body reveals you have done it and lived to tell.
PRAYER: Lord, help us to not solely look on the exterior of a person but to see their behavior and attitude. Teach us to not put all of our stock in our youth and beauty but rather to develop our inner self. Help us to embrace the aging process and give us peace. Help us to help others as they process growing older as well. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. |
