| Jonah 1:1-4:11, Revelation 5:1-14, Psalm 133:1-3, Proverbs 29:26-27
“And he said, ‘I am a Jew, I worship Jehovah, the God of heaven, who made the earth and sea.’ Then he told them he was running away from the Lord. The men were terribly frightened when they heard this. ‘Oh, why did you do it?’ they shouted. ‘What should we do to you to stop the storm?’ For it was getting worse and worse. ‘Throw me out into the sea,’ he said, ‘and it will become calm again. For I know this terrible storm has come because of me.’” Jonah 1:9-11
Here’s a bunch of pagans asking Jonah why he would disobey his God. I mention this because further down they all vowed to serve this God of the winds and waves. So, even in Jonah’s rebellion God still gained souls. What I really wanted to look at was having a Jonah on your boat. There will be some times in life where if we continue our rescue attempts for a person, we will actually begin going down with them. It’s important to be able to discern the difference between helping and enabling. When we realize the storms in their lives are God-given, it’s time to take a step back and encourage them to think about making it right with the Lord.
PRAYER: Lord, reveal to me if I am ever standing in the way of You reaching someone. I ask You to forgive for what I have done in the past. I do not want to be the cause of someone missing the mark with You. I don’t want to comfort them in their sin. I love You and I also ask You to forgive me for the times I have been Jonah. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen. |
