“First of all, then, I urge that petitions (specific requests), prayers, intercessions (prayers for others) and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in [positions of] high authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This [kind of praying] is good and acceptable and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge and recognition of the [divine] truth.” I Timothy 2:1-4
Paul is writing to his spiritual son Timothy, guiding him to point people toward the truth. What is the truth – that Jesus Christ is our go-between, that His sacrifice covered our sins and that we are to walk in this truth with gratitude and a good heart, or witness, toward others. He is encouraging us all to pray for others to come to this knowledge of truth because it is God’s desire for everyone to be saved. If all people were born-again (truly), especially those in high positions, how different would the world look?
PRAYER: Lord, it is my highest honor and privilege to lift others before you. I loose the spirit of adoption and pray people will come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved. I lift up those who are in positions of power that affect the lives of multitudes. I pray for their salvation and even if they refuse salvation, Your Word states you hold the hearts of kings in Your hands and with that in mind, I ask that You persuade them to rule right. Have mercy Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. |
